CORSICA

Napoleon's Birthplace

Ajaccio sits on Corsica's western coast as the island's capital city. This French port town offers a mix of beaches, museums, historic buildings, and cultural sites. The city is best known as the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte, and many of its top attractions relate to the emperor's life and legacy.

Beyond its Napoleonic connections, Ajaccio gives you access to beautiful coastal areas and island excursions. You can visit art museums, walk through old town streets, or relax on nearby beaches. The city serves as a good base for exploring the surrounding region.

Ajaccio's Beaches and Coastal Escapes

Ajaccio beaches offer easy access to the Mediterranean, from city-center shores near the harbor to wild coastal stretches where cliffs meet turquoise water. You'll find fine sand, clear water for snorkeling, and beaches suited for both quick dips and full beach days.

The Sanguinaires Islands and the Parata Peninsula

The Îles Sanguinaires archipelago and Pointe de la Parata form one of Ajaccio's most scenic destinations. This protected natural site sits about 12 kilometers west of the city center and earned the prestigious "Grand Site de France" label in 2017 for its outstanding landscape and conservation efforts.

Old Town Experiences: Streets, Shopping, and Culture

Ajaccio's Old Town centers around several historic streets that form the shopping and cultural heart of the city. Rue Fesch and Cours Grandval offer the main retail experiences, while narrow side streets reveal traditional Corsican boutiques and cafés.
